Meralco Bill Calculator — Step-by-Step Usage Guide
This guide explains exactly how to operate the calculator to build an accurate monthly electricity estimate based on your appliance usage. Follow each step in order; the tool is sequential by design.
1) Initialize the Calculator
- Open the calculator interface.
- Confirm the header shows the current rate (e.g., April 2026 rate).
- Verify the Total Estimate reads ₱0.00 and the item list is empty.
If not, click RESET to start from a clean state.
2) Select an Appliance Category
- Locate “1. Select Category.”
- Open the dropdown and choose the category that matches the appliance you want to add:
- Air Conditioners
- Audio and Video
- Computers and Gadgets
- Electric Vehicle
- Fans
- Freezers
- Kitchen Appliances
- Refrigerators
- Washers and Dryers
- This action dynamically loads the relevant appliances in the next field.
Important: Always choose the category first; the appliance list depends on it.
3) Select a Specific Appliance
- Move to “2. Specific Appliance.”
- Open the dropdown and select the exact appliance type.
- Each option displays its power rating (Watts) in brackets, e.g.:
- “1.5 HP Inverter (1100W)”
Guidance for accuracy:
- If you know your appliance’s wattage from the label/manual, pick the closest match.
- If unsure, select the nearest equivalent model (e.g., inverter vs. non-inverter).
Do not proceed without selecting an appliance. The tool ignores placeholder selections.
4) Set Daily Usage (Hours)
- Locate “3. Daily Usage.”
- Use the slider to set how many hours per day the appliance runs.
- The numeric value updates in real time (e.g., 8 Hours).
Best practice:
- Estimate average daily usage, not peak usage.
- For appliances used intermittently (e.g., microwave), convert to a daily average:
- Example: 30 minutes/day → set to 0.5 hours (round to 1 if needed).
5) Add Appliance to Bill Profile
- Click “ADD TO BILL PROFILE.”
- The tool will:
- Convert watts × hours → daily kWh
- Multiply by 30 → monthly consumption
- Apply the rate → monthly cost
- The appliance appears in the itemized list with its monthly cost.
Outcome:
Your running total updates automatically.
6) Repeat for All Appliances
- Repeat Steps 2–5 for every appliance in your household.
- Add items one by one:
- Refrigerator
- Air conditioner
- TV
- Fans
- etc.
The estimate improves as your appliance list becomes more complete.
7) Review the Itemized Breakdown
- Inspect the itemized list:
- Each entry shows:
- Appliance name
- Daily usage (hours)
- Monthly cost (₱/month)
- Each entry shows:
- Use this to identify high-consumption devices.
Typical high-impact appliances:
- Air conditioners
- Electric vehicle chargers
- Heating devices (microwave, air fryer)
8) Interpret the Total Estimate
- The Total Estimate reflects:
- Total monthly kWh × rate
- Adjusted by lifeline discounts (if applicable)
Lifeline logic applied automatically:
- ≤ 50 kWh → bill = ₱0
- 51–70 kWh → 35% discount
- 71–100 kWh → 20% discount
Note:
Actual utility bills may include taxes, system losses, and local adjustments not modeled here.
9) Reset When Needed
- Click RESET to:
- Clear all appliances
- Reset total to ₱0.00
- Use this before starting a new estimate or scenario comparison.
Accuracy Best Practices
To get results close to a real bill:
- Use realistic daily hour estimates (avoid guessing extremes).
- Include always-on appliances:
- Refrigerators
- Routers
- Standby electronics
- Add multiple units separately:
- Example: 3 fans → add the fan 3 times.
- Adjust usage for seasonal changes (e.g., higher AC usage in hot months).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping appliance selection (placeholder is not valid)
- Underestimating hours for continuous devices (fridge runs ~24h cycling)
- Forgetting duplicate appliances (multiple TVs, fans, etc.)
- Treating the estimate as an exact bill (it’s a modeled projection)
Practical Workflow Example
- Select Refrigerators → Two-Door Inverter
- Set 24 hours
- Click Add
- Select Air Conditioners → 1.5 HP Inverter
- Set 8 hours
- Click Add
- Continue until all appliances are included
- Review total
What the Tool Actually Calculates
For each appliance:
kWh/day = (Watts × Hours) ÷ 1000Monthly kWh = kWh/day × 30Cost = Monthly kWh × Rate
Then:
- Applies tiered discount rules
- Outputs a final estimated bill
